Farmed Near Macksburg for 42 Years; Death Comes at Age of 83

David L. Campbell, a resident of Madison county for 47 years, died Tuesday, June 17 at a Des Moines hospital. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Campbell was a well known farmer in the Macksburg community for 42 years. For the last four years he had lived in Winterset, until a few weeks ago, when he went to the home of his son, Lester Campbell, of Peru.

Mr. Campbell was born Dec. 27, 1863 in Augusta county, Virginia, the son of Jacob and Margaret Campbell. He was married May 4, 1890 to Clara Jane Romine. She preceded him in death on March 28, 1940.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge for more than half a century.

Surviving are his four sons, Lester C. Campbell of Peru, Harvey Carl Campbell of Winterset, Lennie M. Campbell of Jamestown, N.Dak., and Glen E. Campbell of Macksburg; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Brown of Osceola, and Mrs. Lena Simpson of Macksburg; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. C. A. Calkins. Burial was made in the Macksburg cemetery.
