J. S. BUTT, AGE 82, DIED THIS TUESDAY

J. S. Butt, well-known Peru resident, died Tuesday night at Madison County Memorial hospital. He was 82 years of age.

For many years Mr. Butt was employed by the Great Western railroad at Peru.

He is survived by one son, Arthur of Sunnyvale, California; four daughters, Mrs. Clara Moore of Newburg, Oregon, Mrs. Edna Andrews of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Ann Travis of Peru and Mrs. Lena Howard of Winterset; one sister, Mrs. C. C. Ives, and a brother, Ed, both of Diagonal, Iowa.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete as the Madisonian went to press. The body is at Richards Funeral Home.

J. S. BUTT SERVICES HERE LAST FRIDAY

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Richards Funeral home for James S. Butt, whose death occurred at Memorial hospital Tuesday, March 22. The Rev. Dale Lockart conducted the services. Burial was made in the Knowlton cemetery at Diagonal.

Mr. Butt was 82 years of age at his death. He was a native of Indiana, where he was born Oct. 9, 1877, in Perry county. He came to Iowa in a covered wagon in 1883. Most of his life was spent in Ringgold, Union and Madison counties. He was employed by the Chicago Great Western railroad for nearly 40 years before retiring.

He was married at Diagonal in 1903 to Goldie Baker. she preceded him in death in 1958.

They were parents of nine children, five of whom survive their father. They are Arthur of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mrs. Clara Moore of Newberg, Ore., Mrs. Anna Travis of Peru, Mrs. Lena Howard of Winterset, and Mrs. Edna Andrews of Portland, Ore. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a brother, Edd, and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Ives, both of Diagonal.
