Funeral services were held Saturday from the Macksburg Methodist church for W. E. Butcher of Macksburg, whose death had occurred at his home there on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Rev. Donald D. Frank conducted the services. Burial was made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.
William E. Butcher was 79 years of age at his death. He was a native of Decatur county, where he was born Oct. 8, 1881, a son of James and Harriett Lucas Butcher. He had been a resident of Madison county or 24 years, the last 18 years on the farm where his death occurred.
He was married in Decatur county March 24, 1903, to Hazel Sutherlin, who survives him. He also leaves seven sons and three daughters; Vernon Butcher of Lamoni, Fred Butcher of Peru, Wayne Butcher of Orient, Artie Butcher of Davis City, Raymond Butcher of Almogordo, N.M., Frank Butcher of Macksburg, William Butcher of Orient, Mrs. Raymond Kiddoo of Winterset, Mrs. Don Garrett of Creston and Mrs. Lilbert Pettit of Winterset. He also leaves 38 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Williams of Leon, Mrs. Cecil Seymore of Davis City and Mrs. Vurne Norman of Decatur city.
