Former Winterset resident "Louie" Burger died February 9 of a heart attack at the home of his granddaughter while on an extended vacation in Amarillo, Texas. He had been a resident of Ames, Iowa for more than 35 years, where he had been a barber and employee of the Atomic Research Commission.
Mr. Burger was born June 16, 1910 in the now ghost town of McBride in Jefferson township of this county near the McBride Covered Bridge.
He was the youngest of three sons born to Civil War veteran August F. Burger and Laura Mueller Burger. He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, the former Mildred Clampitt. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Sevatson of New Canaan, Connecticut.
Other survivors include two grandchildren, Vicki Sevatson of Amarillo, Texas, and Eric Sevatson, a student at Kansas State University.
Funeral services were held at the Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames February 12 with burial at the Jefferson U.B. Cemetery in Jefferson township of Madison county.
