Hugh A. Wilson was born on December 25, 1902. He was the second of three sons born to Jehu and Hattie Stubbs Wilson, and he grew to manhood on the family farm in Dallas County near the town of Earlham, Iowa.

Hugh attended the local schools and graduated from the Earlham Junior College in 1930. He became a member of the Earlham Friends Church by request of his parents in 1904.

On March 21, 1934 Hugh was married to Georgia Fleming. He worked on a farm for a number of years before moving to the Beloit, Wisconsin area where he was employed by the Fair Banks Morris Company for a while and also worked for some time as a civilian employee for the United States Air Force.

He retired and moved back to Earlham in March of 1967 and has made his home here since then. His wife, Georgia preceded him in death in July of 1972.

On December 28, 1974, Hugh was united in marriage to Gladys Smith Countryman who survives and who will greatly miss his companionship.

Hugh was a skilled locksmith and gathered much pleasure in helping those in need of his services, from making simple keys to opening complicated locks. He enjoyed any task that presented a challenge.

Hugh passed away suddenly the morning of August 11, 1980 in Earlham. Along with his wife Gladys, those of his immediate family who survive include his brother Frank and his wife Loreah; his brother Marion; nieces Marjorie Lowe, Mary Hauschildt, Helen Ludwick and Martha Koboldt and one nephew, Floyd Wilson.

Rev. Eldon F. Cole officiated at the funeral service on Wednesday, August 13, 1980 at the Earlham Friends Church. Mrs. Marion Patience rendered the organ music, and assisting with the floral tributes were Mrs. Frank Wilson and Mrs. Helen Ludwick. Serving as casket bearers were Wayne Koboldt, Russell Lowe, Floyd Wilson, Marion Patience, Don Hauschildt and Bruce Koboldt. Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery, Earlham.
