Clifford E. Brown of Milan, Ill., formerly of Winterset, died Tuesday, December 25, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 67. Mr. Brown had lived in Winterset for 14-1/2 years before moving to Des Moines where he lived for 23 years. At the time of his death he was a warehouseman for Payless Cashway in Silvis, Ill.
Born on December 11, 1912 in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Claude M. and Rebecca Messer Brown. He was married to Harriet Elson on September 15, 1929 in Des Moines. His wife survives him. An army veteran of World War II, Mr. Brown was a member of the American Legion and the Christian Church at Fairfield. He had worked in Des Moines for over 30 years, including 15 years at Coca Cola, 10 years at Ungles Bakery and six years for Budweiser.
Also surviving are a brother, Harold Brown of New London; and six sisters, Mrs. Willis Plants of Weldon, Calif., Mrs. M. W. Reeves of Pierson, Wish., Mrs. Kathryn Johnson of Fairfield, Mrs. Eulala Fraley of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Harriett Allison of San Antonia, Tex., and Mrs. Wilbur Witthoft of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. David Livingston officiating. Burial was at the Truro Cemetery.
