Thursday, March 20, 1986Glen G. Silverthorn, Jr., son of Glenn Sr. and Hazel Silverthorn, was born September 8, 1921 in Saguache County, Colorado. He passed away March 9, 1986, at Charter Community Hospital in Des Moines of cancer.
Glenn came to Iowa as a small boy and was a graduate of Winterset High School. In 1947 he was united in marriage to Ila Linn and to this union were born two daughters, Jo Ann and Beverly. The family continued to live on the home farm in Madison County where Glenn had spent most of his life.
Besides being a farmer, he was an attendant for Martin Brothers, later J. D. Oil in Winterset. After retiring three years ago, Glenn took up the hobby of toy collecting and dealing which gave him many hours of pleasure.
Survivors include his wife Ila; two daughters Jo Ann Collins of Winterset and Beverly Silverthorn of Van Meter; one brother, Philip, of Earlham; a grandson, Nathan; a granddaughter, Kelsey, and one step granddaughter, Noelle, three nephews and one niece. His grandchildren were always very special to him.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12, 1986 at the Worthington Methodist Church, rural Earlham, Iowa, with Reverend Helen Farr officiating. Organ music was provided by Lucile White. Pallbearers were James Smith, Glen Stanley, Melvin Bricker, Dale Stanley, Nicholas Price and Kenneth Bricker. Honorary pallbearers were John Light, Marvin Snyder, Vern Ahnen, Jack Farlow, Walter Gardner, Earl Lohr and Edward Powell. Interment was at Worthington Cemetery, rural Earlham, Iowa.
