MRS. DOW BRITTAIN DIED HERE MONDAY

Mrs. Dow J. Brittain of Jefferson township died this Monday, Sept. 22, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 55 years of age.

Mrs. Brittain had been a resident of Madison county the last 23 years. She was the former Dortha Juanita Gray, daughter of Frank and Mae Gilbert Gray and was born in Guthrie county Jan. 8, 1914. She was married to Dow J. Brittain at Winterset on June 10, 1946.

She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church at Winterset.

Surviving are her husband; five children, Robert G. Shoesmith and Roger D. Shoesmith of Peoria, Ill, Austin F. Brittain of Vietnam; Mrs. Clara E. Garrett and Thelma R. Brittain, both of Winterset. She also leaves her mother, of Winterset; six grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Gray of Billings, Mon., and a sister, Mrs. Florence Lee of Red Lodge, Mont.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset,conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church. Burial was to be made in the North McDonald cemetery.
