Death of John L. Bridges Occurs in California; Funeral Here
John Lawson Bridges, a former resident of Winterset for many years died Saturday April 13, at a hospital in Tujunga, California. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Bridges was a native of Earlham, where he was born Dec. 16, 1895, a son of Austin and Henrietta Frey Bridges. He lived in Winterset for many years, where he was employed by the Winterset Monument company.
He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the 168th, Infantry regiment of the famous 42nd of Rainbow division.
Mr. Bridges was married here to Helen Wright, Dec. 17, 1927. Her death occurred in 1958 at Tujunga.
Surviving are a son, Robert Bridges of California.; a daughter Mrs. Kathleen Lafferty of Des Moines; four grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Bridges of Lincoln, Nebr.; and three sisters, Mrs. C. L. Bricker of Winterset, Mrs. Lois Clock of Palm Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Alta Rinard of Des Moines.
Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. this Wednesday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery near Winterset.
