JERRY SPENCER, Winterset

Jerry Spencer, 65, of Winterset died April 22, 2006, at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.

A memorial service was held today (Wednesday, April 26) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Jerry Spencer was born March 16, 1941, in Iowa City to George and Ethelyn (Lattig) Spencer Sr. and was a 1959 graduate of Winterset High School. His first marriage was to Evelyn Rogers; he later married Linda Cresap on June 2, 1978, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Jerry was employed by John Deere in Ankeny for 35 and one-half years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of UAW Local 454 of Des Moines and a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Givan; and a son, Kenny Ridout.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Winterset; two daughters, Jeri Steffens of Johnston and Kris Nielsen of Lacona; two sons, Craig Ridout of Spring Hill, Kan., and Kevin Ridout of Des Moines; four brothers, Harold Spencer of Red Oak, Gary Spencer of Macksburg, and Bill Spencer and George Spencer, both of Lorimor; three sisters, Kathy Trump of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and Deloris Losee and Marlene Saxton, both of Winterset; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice of Central Iowa’s Kavanagh House on 56th Street.

Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
