July 30, 1913 - October 19, 1978

Richard Lawrence "Dick" Osborn, the son of Lawrence and Cecil Allen Osborn, was born July 30, 1913 in Clarke County, Iowa. He passed away suddenly Thursday, October 19, 1978 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Dick started working for the United Food Stores at Winterset in 1929 and graduated from Winterset High School in 1931. During World War II Dick took two years leave from his work to help with the construction of the Alcan Highway and Ladd Air Field in Fairbanks, Alaska.

January 29, 1936 Dick was married to Beulah Bedwell at Hanley, Iowa. In 1945 they moved to Earlham when Dick began his work at the Earlham grocery store. He and Beulah later purchased the store and operated it until their retirement in October of 1974.

Dick is survived by his wife Beulah, their two children Allan of Harvard, Nebraska and Billie Jo Ford of Organ, New Mexico, along with four grandchildren: Michael, Mark, Dale and Rebecka. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Maxine Kingery of Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leo.

Dick's life was also shared by his memberships in the Earlham Church of Christ, Earlham Business Association, the Madison Lodge No. 568 A.F. & A.M. of Earlham, the Des Moines Consistory, and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines.

Burial was in the Winterset cemetery with Masonic graveside service conducted by Madison Lodge No. 568 A.F. & A.M.
