Obituary - CORD J. BOYLE

Cord Boyle, son of Newton S. and Arena J. Boyle, was born near Linden, Iowa, on December 17, 1876 and passed away at his home in Penn Township on Friday, April 28, 1967, at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

When a young man with his parents he moved on a farm near Dexter where he received his education. On February 14, 1900, he was united in marriage to Cora L. Imboden. To this union was born seven children: Raymond Boyle of Stuart, Cliffton Boyle and Ruth Boyle of Earlham, Mabel Gilman of Earlham, Mildred Willison of Norwalk, Dale Boyle and Lester Boyle of Earlham.

Mr. and Mrs. Boyle started their married life on a farm south of Penn Center where they lived for eight years. Then they moved to their present farm and spent their entire lives in the same community.

He was united with the Methodist church and was a member of Penn Center for many years, where he was an active member and took part in many activities. He was one of the builders of the present Penn Center church as well as being a faithful member and serving on the church board for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Ervin Boyle, Clayton Boyle, and Bill Boyle; two sisters: Lela Carrington, and Grace Boyle. Surviving are his wife, four sons, and three daughters, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was a devoted father, a good neighbor, and a true and trusted friend to everyone. His greatest pride was his children and grandchildren.

“For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, kept my faith. Hence forth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day. And not to me only but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6,7,8.

CORD BOYLE OF PENN CENTER DIES

Cord Boyle, long-time resident of Penn township, died at his home there April 28. He was 90 years of age.

Mr. Boyle was born near Linden Dec. 17, 1876, a son of Newton and Arena Boyle. As a young man he moved with his parents to a farm near Dexter, where he lived until his marriage to Cora L. Imboden on Feb. 14, 1900. They started housekeeping on a farm south of Penn Center, then moved to their present farm where his death occurred.

He was a long-time member of the Penn Center Methodist church, and was one of the builders of the present church building.

He is survived by his wife; seven children, Raymond Boyle of Stuart, Clifton and Ruth Boyle of Earlham, Mrs. Mable Gilman of Earlham, Mrs. Mildred Willison of Norwalk, and Dale and Lester Boyle of Earlham; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 30 from the Penn Center church, with the Rev. John Latta officiating. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.
