MERLE BLAIR DIES AT ADEL

Native of Macksburg Had Lived at Winterset For Years

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Adel Tuesday afternoon, October 17th for Merle Blair who died at his home in Adel Saturday afternoon, October 14th, of a heart attack. He was 46 years old.

Merle Alexander Blair was born at Macksburg, Iowa February 4, 1921 the son of Charles and Mamie Blair. His early childhood was spent in the Macksburg community where he graduated from high school.

He was united in marriage to Kathleen Cameron on December 7, 1941 at Macksburg. To this union was born one daughter Sharon.

He served in the United States Air Force from October 1942 until February 1946, at which time he returned to Winterset and the lumber business. He was in the lumber business for 19 years in both Winterset and Adel. The past 5 years he had been employed by the State of Iowa, 4 years in Buildings and Grounds and one year for the State Board of Control.

He was a member of the Adel Methodist Church, serving on the official board, the Trustees, the Parsonage Planning Committee and helping with youth and camping. He was a charter member of the Lions's Club, having served as President and Secretary and belonged to the American Legion Penoch Post 464.

Mr. and Mrs. Blair had celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at their home in Adel December 13, 1966.

Surviving are his wife Kathleen, his brothers, Charles and Lee of Macksburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rev. Otto Steele officiated at the services held at the Methodist Church in Adel and the burial at the Winterset cemetery.
