Irene B. McLennan
January 6, 1900 - July 25, 1978

Irene McLennan, daughter of Cora Bagley Walker and Oliver Walker, was born January 6, 1900 in Mazon, Illinois. In 1904 the family moved to a farm southeast of Dexter. In 1910 they moved to Earlham.

Irene graduated from the Earlham Academy in 1917. She attended the University of Iowa and later graduated from Capital City Commercial College. Before her marriage she taught in rural schools.

During her youth she was confirmed in the Methodist church. She later spent many years as church pianist and was very active in the work of her church.

Irene and Mervyn were united in marriage on September 20, 1922 in Earlham. One daughter, Ruth, was born to this union. Irene worked with Mervyn in their hardware store for many years.

Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church of Earlham, Order of Eastern Star, where she was Past Matron, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by husband Mervyn, daughter Ruth Busch, son-in-law Marvin Busch and granddaughter Gayle, all of Storm Lake, and grandson David of Sioux City. A brother, Reid Walker, and his wife Rose of Flat Rock, North Carolina and nieces and nephews also survive. Her life has touched many.

Services for Irene McLennan, 78, who passed away July 25 were held at the Earlham United Methodist church on Thursday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ellis Andrew officiating.

Casket bearers were Eugene Conrad, Albin Olson, Bob Reynolds, Amor Routh, Wayne Swallow and Jim Welch. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
