Maurice Black Funeral Friday

Maurice Black of Iowa City, formerly of Winterset, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 72. Mr. Black lived in Madison County most of his life until moving to Iowa City in 1970.

Born at Arcola, Ill., on March 13, 1908, he was the son of Oscar and Nora Hoots Black. He was united in marriage to Fern McAdow on July 31, 1929, at Adel. Mr. Black was employed by Farmers Elevator in Winterset for 13 years, Hawkeye Lumber for 10 years and for the last few years worked for Advanced Drainage Systems in Iowa City.

Surviving are his wife, Fern; two children, Dale Black of Omaha, Neb., and Marvyl M. Letz of Iowa City; eight grandchildren; a brother, Paul Black of Silver City, Iowa; and two sisters, Nellie Cochran and Helen Crawford, both of Lorimor. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Delores Ann Creger and an infant, Shirley Jean; two brothers, Charles and Glenn; and two sisters, Lorene Spencer and Leone Mayer.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Grotewold officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
