Services for Leo Paul Black, 72, formerly of Winterset, who died at Silver City, Iowa, were held at the Methodist Church in Silver City on Monday, Aug. 6, with the Rev. Gene Crossett officiating. Burial was at the Silver City Cemetery.
Born on May 19, 1912 at Dahlgren, Ill., he was the son of Oscar Black and Nora Hoots Black. In 1913 the family moved from Illinois to Winterset and he was a farmer before moving to Silver City. Since that time he was a carpenter.
He was affiliated with the Methodist Church, the Masons and Eastern Star and was a long-time member of the carpenter's union, local 400 of Omaha. For years Mr. Black played the part of Santa Claus for the town during the Christmas season.
On Nov. 16, 1935, Paul was married to Ida Hardisty who survives him. Also surviving are: sons, Paul W. of Council Bluffs, Patrick of Omaha and Philip of San Antonio, Tex.; a daughter, Patricia McMullin of Silver City; a foster son, David Sigler; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Nellie Cochran of Winterset and Helen Crawford of Lorimor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother, three other brothers and two sisters.
