Walter F. Bindel, Winterset

Walter F. Bindel, 83, of Winterset died of a stroke Nov. 15, 2001, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn and Father Ed Pfeffer officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at Winterset Cemetery.

Walter Bindel was born Aug. 11, 1918, to George and Catherine (Rehm) Bindel of Baker, Kan. He married Nellie A. Clements on Sept. 26, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. A longtime resident of Winterset, Walter had worked for The Challenge Center and also with the mentally challenged in Winterset for nearly 14 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for approximately 52 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie of Winterset; two daughters, Patty Ashbaugh (husband Steve( of Des Moines, and Christy Brittain (husband Mark) of Winterset; two sons, Phil Bindel (wife Julie) of Windsor Heights and Tom Bindel of Norfolk, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset or to his family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
