Funeral services were held from the Van Meter United Methodist Church January 6th for Mrs. Bertha Elnora Billings with burial at the Fairview Cemetery north of Winterset.
Mrs. Billings was born March 20, 1881 at DeSoto the daughter of William Stokeley and Sarah Elizabeth Gabbert Gowin and passed away January 3, 1977 at the Madison Manor North Nursing Home in Winterset where she had been a resident for eight years.
She received her education in Dexter and grew up in that community. She was married to William C. Robinson on February 11, 1903. They were the parents of two children, a son, Noah and a daughter, Elaine. On October 26, 1913 she was united in marriage to James Irwin Billings at Boone, Iowa.
She was a member of the Van Meter Evangelical United Brethern which later joined with the Van Meter United Methodist Church. She was an active member in the church activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband on September 11, 1961. She is survived by a son, Noah Robinson of Des Moines, a daughter, Mrs. Gerald O. Nelson of South Padre Island, Texas, four grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Rev. Eldon Andrews, pastor of the Van Meter United Methodist Church, officiated at the services with Steven Gowin, a grand nephew, giving the eulogy.
