Delbert J. Gilbert
June 19, 1912 - October 10, 1981

Delbert J. Gilbert, the son of Loyal R. and Della Dunbar Gilbert, was born June 19, 1912 in Madison County, Iowa. He passed away suddenly on Saturday evening at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Delbert was raised in the Earlham community attending the Penn Township schools and graduating from Earlham High School in 1931.

He worked several years for Ruan Trucking Co., of Des Moines, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II serving much of his time in Europe.

After returning home he again became active in the trucking business and was an owner-operator from 1951 until his retirement in 1976.

He and his family made their home on the south side of Des Moines for many years and had just moved back to Earlham this summer.

Delbert is survived by his loving wife Glois and their five children: Joseph of Des Moines, Jerrold of Earlham, Leota Wood of Roseville, Michigan, Virginia Fusari and Krystal Jones both of Des Moines. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two brothers, Verlyn of Carson City, Nevada and Marlyn of Earlham. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ and V.F.W. Post 738 of Des Moines.

Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
