LAVINA BREEDING

Lavina Breeding, daughter of Alexander Blair, was born in Adair Co. Ky. Nov. 5, 1813, and departed this life Nov. 17, 1901, being 88 and 12 days old.

She was married to George W. Breeding in 1830 and moved to Iowa in 1860 and settled in Madison County where they have since resided. There were born to them 4 sons and 4 daughters all of whom have preceded her to the land beyond, her husband having died Dec. 21, 1874, twenty-one years ago.

She was converted and joined the U.B. Church of which she has been a faithful member for some sixty years, living with that hope that is both sure and steadfast, which entereth into that within the veil. She leaves many friends, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. During her last sickness her mind continually stayed on Christ and the beautiful promises of God—often quoting the beautiful expressions of the holy ones in the word of God and speaking words of praise. Her Chosen text for her funeral service was Rev. 14-13. Although her mind wandered as far as all earthy affairs were concerned could not be clear, or know the countenances of her friends, yet it was her constant desire that they should be ner her and her request and chief concern was that they should come to Christ and meet her. Her last words spoken were “Come to Jesus” and then,, as if she knew that it was her last opportunity, she repeatedly Said: “Remember Me.”

When told that we would remember her her, she nodded her head, and with a smile of satisfaction, called her daughter-in-law, the one companion and friend that she so frequently called, and wanted her constantly to be near her. Then with a steady failing of the vital powers, passed peacefully away, thus fulfilling the scripture: “Blessed are they who die in the Lord.” Truly their works do follow them.

She died with a smile of satisfaction in the presence of her daughter-in-law, her companion and friend.

The funeral occurred from her late home Tuesday Nov. 19 at ten o’clock conducted by Rev. George Miller of Carlisle after which the remains were interred in Blair Chapel Cemetery.
