Grace Teggie Berch of rural Peru died at Madison County Memorial Hospital on Monday, Jan. 5, at the age of 92.
The daughter of John and Eliza Willis Feight, Mrs. Berch was born Aug. 14, 1888, in Marion County. In 1914 she was married to William Berch in Pottawattamie County.
She moved to Madison County in 1936 and was employed as a seamstress for Des Moines Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Berch was Madison County's last living Spanish-American War widow.
Among her survivors are three sons, William and John both of Peru, Roy of Winterset; four daughters, Velma Patterson of Indianola, Thelma McFarland of Lyndon, Ky., Delia Collins of Kansas City, Mo., Donna Missi of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister Dora Hildreth of Indianola; 27 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, and seven sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Collins Funeral Home. Rev. William Campbell officiated with burial at Mt. Pelier Cemetery.
