JAMES RYAN Of Winterset Dies

James A. "Jim" Ryan of Winterset, a well-known farmer and livestock breeder for many years, died Monday, Feb. 27, 1967, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 65 years of age. His death followed an extended period of failing health.

Mr. Ryan was a life-time resident of Madison county. Most of his active years were spent in farming in the Irish settlement of Northeast Crawford township where he also was well known as a breeder of Angus cattle. He had retired and moved to Winterset in 1965.

Mr. Ryan was born in this county July 14, 1901, a son of John J. and Mary Maher Ryan. He was married April 19, 1949, to Ruth Chipperfield, at St. Patrick's Church.

He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic church at Winterset at the time of his death.

Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife; a brother, Thomas F. Ryan of Portland, Ore.; and two sisters, Mrs. Nona Cain of Des Moines and Mrs. John E. Dullard of Boudurant. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Rosary services will be held this Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Collins Funeral home in Winterset. Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, with the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins, officiating. Burial will be made in St. Patrick's cemetery in Lee township.

Final Rites Held For James A. Ryan

The out of town relatives and friends who were here last Wednesday and Thursday to attend the final rites for James A. (Jim) Ryan prominent Madison county farmer, who died Feb. 27, were as follows:

Miss Miriam Chipperfield, Jim Shambaugh, and Miss Sharon Carroll of Omaha, and Miss Betty Ryan of LaGrange, Illinois. Those here from Des Moines included Mrs. Nona Cain, Mrs. Eileen Carroll, Mrs. Elmer Miller and children Denise and Tom, Mrs. Therese Foote, and daughter Rochelle, Mrs. Jack Dullard, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dullard, Mrs. William Haher, Mrs Ella Meinser, Mrs. Jim Brien, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Ryan, Mrs. Margaret Dullard, and Sister Mary Ann Razelle all of Des Moines,

Others here from outside of Madison county were Mrs. Adorrine Smith and her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Morrissey of Davenport, William P. and Edward F. Rooney of Maxwell, Mrs. Martin Phelan of Mingo, Mr. and Mrs. John Dullard and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dullard of Bondurant, Mr. and Mrs. John roach, Mr. and Mrs. Squire Crawford of Indianola and Dr. and Mrs. C. F. Stanley of Cumming.
