Wilma Bennington, Earlham

Wilma Bennington, 92, of Earlham died of heart failure Jan. 21, 2003, in her home.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Charles Cemetery with David D. Kuhn officiating.

Wilma Bennington was born Jan. 18, 1911, in Kirksville, Mo., to William and Lora (Cobb) Bennington. She received her education in the Kirksville area. She became a country school teacher, teaching for approximately 15 years. In 1944, she moved to Chicago, Ill., to attend St. Luke's Nursing School, from which she graduated in 1946.

Wilma's nursing career included teaching nurse's training to members of various Indian tribes across the northern and western United States for the U.S. government. She had resided in Alaska, Arizona, North Dakota and South Dakota before retiring in 1962 as the school nurse for the Susanville Community School District in California. She then returned to the St. Charles area, living there until 1998 when she moved to Earlham.

She is survived by one nephew and four nieces.

Arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
