John Lee Bennett of Broomfield, Colo., formerly of Madison County, died Wednesday, Aug. 13 of a heart attack at the age of 48. Born on Oct. 11, 1931, he was the son of Maude and Floyd Bennett of Winterset.
Mr. Bennett attended country school at the Bennett Stone Schoolhouse, high school at DeSoto, Wartburg College at Waverly and Wartburg Theological Seminary at Dubuque. He served three years in the U.S. Army.
He was united in marriage to Mabel Louise Riegle on May 13, 1952, and they made their home in Broomfield, Colo. Mr. Bennett was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of Hope where he held many church offices and was active in youth work and the scouting programs.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel; three children, Katherine Chabino, James Bennett and Daniel Bennett; and a granddaughter Elizabeth, all of Broomfield, Colo.; his parents, Maude and Floyd Bennett of Winterset; an aunt, Josephine Hoskins; and an uncle James Warren Bennett of Winterset.
Funeral services were held in Colorado and he was buried at the Crown Hill cemetery in Denver, Colo.
