Obituary Mrs. M. A. Tullis
Lillie Shepherd, daughter of Jess P. and Martha Shepherd, was born Sept. 17, 1861, in Putnam county, Indiana. Came with her parents to Iowa in the fall of 1862 and settled at Winterset, Iowa.
She was married to S. A. Ellis in May 1883 at Winterset. To this union were born four children: Louise M., Julian W., William A. and Wallace P. Mr. Ellis died in October, 1889.
Mrs. Ellis was married in March, 1891, to M. A. Tullis. To them were born five children: Earl, Jennie, Thomas, Lloyd and Goldie all of whom are living, except Thomas, who departed this life in October 1904.
She lived over 40 years in Madison county, moving to Batavia in 1905. In 1907, she moved with her children to Earlham, in 1910, she moved to Des Moines, where she lived until her death which occurred June 8, 1913 as a result of a second stroke of paralysis. Her age was 52 years, 8 months and 21 days.
She united with the Methodist church in Winterset in 1890 and transferred her membership to the Friends church in Earlham in 1908 and remained a member until God called her home.
She is survived by the following children and brothers: William and Louise Holloway, Julian and Clara Ellis, William A. and Wallace P. Ellis, all of Des Moines. Earl G. and Myrtle Tullis of Chicago, William and Jennie Haley of Des Moines, Lloyd and Goldie Tullis of Des Moines, W. S. Shepherd, Earlham, Iowa; M. F. Shepherd, Anoka, Minn.; O. E. Shepherd of Dresden, Kansas.
All her children and two brothers were present at the funeral. Lloyd the youngest son, will live with Etarl Tullis in Chicago, and Goldie will remain with her sister Mrs. Wm. Holloway. Mrs. Tullis tried to do well her part in the home and endeavored to lead her children into a better life.
Funeral services were held in Des Moines at 10 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by Rev. H. Hadley, followed by services at Earlham at two p.m., conducted by Rev. Howard Brown of the Friends church. Interment was made at the Earlham cemetery.
