Sarah Louisa Reed was born in Lake county, Indiana, Feb. 18, 1856 and died Sept. 8, 1911 at her home in Jefferson township, aged 55 years, 6 months and 20 days. At the age of nine, she moved with her parents to Jordan, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to T. J. Miller at Hay Springs, Nebr., Dec. 15, 1888. Two years later they moved to Jasper county, Iowa, and in 1903, to this neighborhood.
Sister Miller united with the Presbyterian church at the age of 23, but on moving to Jasper county, united with the M. E. church and transferred her membership to Fairview class on moving to this neighborhood. She was a steadfast christian, ready unto every good word and work. Never absent from her place in church, except when detained by sickness. She manifested unwavering faith in Jesus Christ through all the painful, discouraging experience of failing health.
In December last, her health began to give way. After a few months of growing weakness, she was taken to Los Angeles by her husband in hope of restoration. From there, she returned after two months, to go down into the valley of the shadow of death, yet as one fearing no evil since she was conscious of the presence of the Good Shepherd.
She leaves her bereaved companion, T. J. Miller and her two children, Florence and Leo. Besides these, there survives her, two brothers and two sisters, of whom only one, Mrs. Harriet Sutton of Minneapolis, was able to be present during her sickness and attendance at the funeral, the parents of Mr. Miller, his four brothers, Ed, John, Fred and Charles and a sister, Mrs. Allie Owing and her husband, all of Kellogg, Iowa.
The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9th at 2 p.m. at the Fairview M. E. church and were attended by the entire community, where the deceased was known and valued because of her excellent qualities as a wife, mother, neighbor and christian worker. Mrs. Miller had herself selected the songs to be used on this occasion and these were feelingly rendered by the choir. The sermon was preached from Rom. 8:18. After the services, the remains were interred in the Fairview Cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
