JOHN BEEDLE OF WINTERSET DIES

Was Last Surviving Member of Pioneer Madison County Family

John R. Beedle, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died this Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Winterset nursing home. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Beedle was a grandson of one of the early settlers in the Winterset community, who helped select the name for the city. He was born in Union township on July 1, 1878, a son of Abraham and Rachel Murphey Beedle. Most of his active life was spent in farming, but he had lived in Winterset in recent years. Ill health had confined him to his home for the last 10 years.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church.

Mr. Beedle was married in Des Moines on Sept. 27, 1921 to Hazel Beaman, who survives him. He also leaves three children, Mrs. Mary Beard of Winterset, Duane Beedle of Martensdale and Mrs. Beulah Howell of Winterset; and five grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, being preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the St. Paul Lutheran church, in charge of the Rev. Clarence R. Nagel of Martensdale. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
