Services for Earl Beard, 63, longtime Madison County resident who died Jan. 27 at Porter Hospital in Denver, Colo., were held Monday, Jan. 31 at the Kale Funeral Home, Truro, with the Rev. John Hanzalik officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

He was born at Truro Aug. 2, 1919, the son of William Andrew and Hannah Adelia Looney Beard. He attended Walnut country school, living in Madison County to 1947 when he moved to Minnesota. He returned to Madison County in 1965 and spent most of his life as a mechanic and farmer.

Survivors include brothers, Guy Beard of Winterset, Eldon Beard of Elk River, Minn., and Marvin Beard, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Gladys) Koehler of Winterset; a half-brother Leo Smith of Peoria, Ill., and a half-sister, Myrtle Reed of Des Moines. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister.

William Beard Rites Monday

William Earl Beard, 63, of Winterset, died Thursday, January 27, 1983 in the Porter Hospital, Denver, Colorado. Services were held Monday, January 31 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro, with the Pastor John Hanzalik officiating the 2 p.m. rites. Interment was in the Winterset Cemetery.

William Earl Beard was born August 2, 1919 in Truro, Iowa to William Andrew Beard and Hannah Adelia Looney Beard. He received his education at Walnut #7 in Madison County, Iowa and never married. He lived in Madison County from 1919 to 1947, moved to Minnesota until 1965, when he returned until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Survivors include a brother Guy Beard of Winterset, a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Gladys) Kohler of Winterset, a brother, Eldon Beard of Elk River, Minnesota, a brother, Marvin Beard of Denver, Colorado, a half-brother, Leo Smith of Peoria, Illinois, a half sister, Myrtle Reed of Des Moines, seven nephews, nine nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews.
