Norman Alvin Young, 79, of Winterset died from complications of a stroke Sept. 26, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Sept. 29) at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Ed Pfeffer officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with military graveside services performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142 of Winterset.
Norman Young was born June 2, 1920, to Bert A. and Evelyn Oakly (Johnson) Young of Flint, Mich. He married Helen V. Maxwell on Dec. 21, 1948, in St. Charles. A World War II Army veteran, he spent most of his life in the Madison County area. A retired farmer, he also had worked for Firestone and the Winterset Madisonian. Norman was a member of V.F.W. Post 8142 and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Norman A. Young Jr. (wife Gail) of Truro; two daughters, Anna Marie Casner (husband Ernie) of St. Charles and Virginia Erpelding (husband Ray) of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
