Clyde W. Balch, Englewood, Fla.

Funeral services for Clyde W. Balch, 73, were held Sat. Febl 16 at the Englewood United Methodist Church with internment in Baltimore, Md. He died February 13 at home after a long cancer illness.

A native of Winterset, he was an emeritus professor and former chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Toledo, Ohio, retiring in 1977 as Dean of Continuing Education. An early DuPont employee, he was a co-founder in 1946 of Maumee Chemical Company in Toledo, Ohio. He was a National Lecturer for the American Institute of Chemical Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute and for three years was a part-time consultant in Chemical Engineering for the University systems in Jakarta and Surabaya, Indonesia. He was awarded Toledo Engineer of the Year in 1962 and 1979 and received the Gold T Award for Alumni Achievement from the University of Toledo. He was president of the Ohio Council in Continuing Education, a member of the Ohio Council for the National Endowment for the Humanities, a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church, a recent Englewood Masonic Lodge member, a Rotarian from Adrian, Mich., and a retired member of the Toledo Goodwill Board.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo; three sons, Charles of Houston, Tex., Stephen of Atlanta, Ga., and Randy of Columbus, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the University of Toledo, Ohio 43606 to go toward a Clyde W. Balch Scholarship in Chemical Engineering.
