John Baker, Winterset

John O. Baker, 72, of Winterset, died Nov. 29, 1994 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were Dec. 2, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull officiated the ceremony with burial at the Winterset Cemetery.

He was born July 20, 1922 in Des Moines to Ralph Floyd and Velma Claire (Frey) Baker. He married Jean Kuhns in Troy, Kansas on Oct. 26, 1947. He was a retired bulk agent for Standard Oil. He was a lifetime resident of Winterset. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a member of the VFW Post No. 8142; American Legion Post No. 184; and the Masonic Evening Star Lodge No. 35. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving for the Coast Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.

Surviving relatives include his wife; three daughters, Kerry Chase and husband Rod of Creston, Vicky Givan and husband Mike of Winterset;, and Marty Stowell and husband Duane of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church or to the family to be used as a gift for Third Floor Powell.
