Gerald Baker, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Baker of New Virginia, was fatally injured last Friday when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car on Highway 207, a half mile southwest of New Virginia.

Gerald and his brother, Robert were riding their bicycles on the highway when Gerald's bicycle was hit by a car driven by Aloys Simser, aged 52, of Afton. Simser rushed Gerald to a medical clinic in Osceola, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Baker family formerly lived in Madison county. Gerald was born at Winterset Feb. 11, 1957, a son of Russell and Shirley Patterson Baker. He attended the Interstate 35 schools.

Surviving are his parents; the brother, Robert; two sisters, Peggy and Katheryn; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Patterson of Truro and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Baker of Macksburg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Peru Methodist church with burial in the Peru cemetery.
