RUFUS BAKER, 91 DIED SUNDAY

Rufus Baker of Macksburg, a well-known Madison county resident for many years, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1968 at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 91 years of age.

Mr. Baker was a native of Taylor county, Kansas, where he was born Dec. 17, 1876, a son of John and Sarah Baker. He had lived in Madison county since 1918. His active life was largely spent in farming.

He was married Oct. 2, 1902, to Susan Markley, whose death occurred a few years later. His second marriage, on March 17, 1917, was to Mary Warren, who survives him.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves 13 children, Clarence and Floyd Baker of Macksburg, Earl Baker of Peru, Mrs. Hazel Knouf of Norwalk, Mrs. Florence Stifel of Selah, Wash., Mrs. Letra McChesney of Norwalk, Mrs. Grace Carter of Englewood, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Bush of Annabelle, Mo., Mrs. Elsie Allen of St. Charles, Charles Baker of Ridecrest, Calif., Russell Baker of New Virginia, Mrs. Wanda Coril of Norwalk, and Mrs. Kathryn Patterson of St. Charles. He also leaves a brother, Thomas Baker of Macksburg, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Shephard of Scranton, Kan.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Peru Methodist church. Burial is to be made in the Peru cemetery.
