Obituary

Died-At Winterset, Friday morning April 8th, 1887, Mrs. Jane Daugherty Stone.

Mrs. Stone was born in Adair county, Kentucky, March 5 1824. At the age of 12 she removed from Kentucky to Gibson county, Indiana. In 1840 she was married to Thomas A. Stone and removed to Menard county, Illinois, and in 1866 she came with her family to Madison county, Iowa, where she has since resided until the time of her death.

When only 14 years of age she made a profession of religion and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church. After she came to Winterset she united with the Presbyterian church at this place of which she has always been an honored, consistent and faithful member, ever manifesting by a quiet, earnest, devoted religious life, the reality and purity of the faith she professed.

And when the end came, the consolation of that religion which had sustained her through a long life, was not wanting.

She had been gradually failing for several months, but patiently and calmly with an unfaltering trust in the Savior she had followed through so many years, went down to the dark river, where light and hope and peace shine on the other shore.

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”
