MARGARET BABBITT DIED LAST FRIDAY

Former Resident Succumbs at Creston, Aged 77 Years

Mrs. Margaret Babbitt, a former Winterset resident, died last Friday night, Dec. 1st at the Greater Community hospital in Creston. Mrs. Babbitt, who was 77 years of age, had been in failing health for many months. She is a sister of Mrs. Ed Orris of Winterset.

The deceased, a daughter of the late James H. and Lydia Welch, was born near Winterset, May 26, 1873. She attended the Winterset schools and for eight years was employed in the composing room of the Winterset News. Her marriage to Albert Babbitt was solemnized March 8, 1900, and a few years later they moved to Creston which had since been her home. Mr. Babbitt died April 3, 1938.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Blanche Harpin, a son, John Babbitt, a grandson, Robert Harpin, and two great grandchildren, all of Creston. She also leaves two sister, Mrs. W. E. Daggett of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. Orris of Winterset, and a brother, John F. Welch of Glendale, Calif.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Deitrick-Keating chapel in Creston, Rev. Ernest S. Worden, pastor of the First Christian church officiating and burial was made in the Graceland cemetery at Creston.
