Maymie Pearl Bailey, 88, formerly of Afton died of congestive heart failure June 13, 1999, at Creston Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, June 16) at 10:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Afton with the Rev. Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton.
Maymie Bailey was born July 2, 1910, near Clearfield to Walter Henry and Mable Pearl (Dawson) Petersohn. She was educated in Taylor County country schools and graduated from Creston High School. She lived in the Thayer and Afton areas most of her life. She married Jessie Ross "Doc" Bailey on Aug. 28, 1929, in Creston. Maymie was a homemaker and also worked as a school bus driver and cook at Thayer Community School. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Afton and had attended the United Methodist churches in Thayer and Afton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and two great-grandsons.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Eckardt of Baxter, Phyllis Clark (husband Donald) of Winterset and Ruby Cornelison (husband Ronald) of Creston; four sons, Robert Bailey (wife Delores) of Chapin, Richard Bailey (wife Shirley) of Afton, Gary Bailey (wife Connie) of Winterset and William Bailey (wife Marge) of Enid Okla.; 21 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
