Funeral services for Janet Freed Backsen, 51, were held Sept. 16 at Ivester Church of the Brethren at Eldora. She died Sept. 11, 1994 in her home. The Reverends Damon and Sue Wagner Fields officiated the service. Burial was at Sheller Cemetery at Eldora.

She was born in Eldora, October 4, 1942 to Harvey and Velda (Sisson) Freed. She was a resident of Des Moines for the last 12 years, and worked as an artist. She was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Surviving relatives include her mother, Velda Freed of Winterset, two brothers, LaVerne W. Freed of Carrollton, Texas, and Larry Freed of Winterset; and one sister, Elaine Monaghan of Des Moines.
