JOHN E. CHASE

John E. Chase, 69, of West Des Moines died Dec. 25, 2004, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, which will include a Masonic service performed by Dwight R. Hunnell of the West Gate Adelphic Masonic Lodge. Visitation is from 5–8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 29) at the funeral home. Burial will be at McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Douglas Township, Madison County, with military rites performed by V.F.W. Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

John Chase was born June 22, 1935, in Dexter to Verl and Eunice (Wright) Chase. On April 22, 1955, he married Ruby Golightly. During his working career, John was employed with several retail operations, including Des Moines Ford Tractor, Sidles and Nebraska Furniture Mart, from which he retired. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Shrine and West Gate Adelphic Masonic Lodge 509 of Des Moines.

He is survived by a special friend, JoAnn Jones of West Des Moines; one son, Dave Chase of Ankeny; a sister, Marilyn Tobey of Des Moines, a brother, Verl A. Chase Jr. of Bellevue, Neb.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Heart Connection (children’s cancer programs), 1223 Center St., Des Moines 50309 in honor of John’s grandson Dillon, who is a cancer survivor and is active in the program.
