Lorene Austin, Winterset

Lorene McCleary Austin, 90, died of congestive heart failure Oct. 11, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Burial will be at West Linn Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Lorene Austin was born Oct. 6, 1909, to Harry A. and Ella A. (Halley) Travis of Linden. She spent her school years in the Linden area. She had been co-owner of the hardware and laundry in Redfield, where she had resided for more than 40 years, and the laundry in Exira. She resided in Bountiful, Utah, for 20 years and Adel for two before moving to Winterset in 1996. Lorene was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church, P.E.O., and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis McCleary in 1973 and her second husband, Adrian Austin in 1994. She also was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Spencer; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice or the Redfield Methodist Church.
