DEXTER-A funeral for Alvin Carl (Sam) Scar, 73, of Dexter was held Nov. 24, 1991 at Zion Lutheran Church at Dexter. Mr. Scar died of cancer on Nov. 21 at Earlham Health Care Center. Burial was at the Penn Center Cemetery located in the rural Earlham area.

The son of Charles and Katie Schafer Scar, he was born in Madison County on Nov. 12, 1918. He married Darlene Wilson at Dexter on March 23, 1941. He retired from farming in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Lenore.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; four sons, Richard Scar of Buena Vista, Colo., Robert Scar of Coral Springs, Fla., Dennis Scar of Earlham and David Scar of Woodward; and 10 grandchildren.

Alvin (Sam) Scar, the son of Charles and Katie Schafer Scar, was born November 12, 1918, in Madison County, Iowa. He passed away at Earlham Health Care Center November 21, 1991, after a lengthy illness at the age of 73 years and nine days.

Sam spent his boyhood on the family farm in Madison County, Penn Township, attended country school Penn #5 and graduated from Earlham High School in 1936.

On March 23, 1941 he was united in marriage to Darlene Wilson at Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Sam was actively engaged in farming all his adult life, living on the farm until 1976 when they moved to Diamondhead Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lenore.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, son Richard and wife Janice of Buena Vista, Colorado; son Robert and wife Connie of Coral Springs, Florida; son Dennis and wife Christine of Earlham; and son David of Woodward. Sam is also survived by grandchildren Ken and Kathy of Colorado; Teresa and Julie of Florida; Deni, Christa, Charles of Earlham; Michael, Daniel, and Timothy of Des Moines.

Interment was in Penn Center cemetery.
