Bessie Elizabeth Mapes

EARLHAM-A funeral for Bessie Elizabeth Mapes, 96, of Earlham was held April 10, 1991 at McKee Funeral Home here. Mrs. Mapes died on April 7, 1991 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center at Des Moines. Burial was at the Earlham Cemetery.

The daughter of Joseph and Marie Bejeck Veverka, she was born on Sept. 9, 1984 (1894). She married Leo E. Mapes on Feb. 16, 1916. A lifelong resident of Earlham, she was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Earlham Friends Church.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Mapes of Earlham and Franklyn Mapes of Des Moines; a daughter, Myrna DeWall of Laurens; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
