GEORGE ARMSTRONG DIES AT 89 YEARS

Long-Time Resident of Scott Township Succumbed Last Friday

George W. Armstrong, one of Madison county's oldest citizens died at his home in Scott township last Friday at the age of 89 years.

Mr. Armstrong was born in this county on Oct. 20, 1855, the son of John and Julia Armstrong. He was married in June, 1880, to Olive James. They were the parents of nine children. Mrs. Armstrong died in 1903 and one son, Oliver, succumbed in 1915.

Mr. Armstrong had lived for 78 years on the old Armstrong homestead near Peru, hjaving moved there with his parents at the age of 11 years. He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges.

He is survived by eight children, J. L. Armstrong of Omaha, Asa and John Armstrong of Winterset, Loren Armstrong and Mrs. Clyde Morgan of Peru, Mrs. Harley Ogburn of Marshall, Texas, Mrs. Walter Howard of Winterset, and Laura Armstrong at home. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Anderson's Home for Funerals, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
