April 5, 1972MRS. JOHN WHITE Dies at 86 Years
Mrs. John P. White of Winterset died Saturday, April 1, 1972, at Memorial hospital here, after an illness of two weeks. She was 86 years of age.
Mrs. White lived practically all her long life in this community. She was the former Bessie L. Young, daughter of Walter S. and Rose Beem Young, and was born in Winterset Sept. 16, 1885. As a young woman she worked at the milinery trade in Winterset and Des Moines, and for many years worked as a dressmaker.
She was married Oct. 14, 1903, to John P. White in Winterset. Their married life was spent in this community, with the exception of three years, 1919 to 1922, in Mercedes, Tex.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Winterset, and of the Altar and Rosary society there. In former years she was active in several Winterset social clubs.
Her husband died Oct. 19, 1962, after 59 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Paul J. White of Winterset and W. S. (Jack) White of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. M. L. Percy of rural Earlham; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one step-great grandchild.
Rosary was recited for Mrs. White this Tuesday evening from Collins Funeral home in Winterset. The requiem mass was held this Wednesday morning from St. Joseph's Catholic church, conducted by the Rev. Eugene J. Klein, pastor of St. John's Catholic church at Greenfield. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
