JOHN P. WHITE Dies at 83 Years

John P. White, a resident of Winterset for 60 years, died Friday, Oct. 19, 1962, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset, after a brief illness. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. White had retired in 1952 afer working as a barber for 57 years. During those years he had operated four diffeent shops in Winterset.

He was born Aug. 25, 1879, in Atlantic, a son of Paul and Anna Foley White. Both of his parents were natives of Ireland. He started in the barber trade at the age of 16 years, first at Atlantic, then working at Stuart several years before coming to Winterset in the spring of 1900. The remainder of his life was spent in this community, with the exception of two years in Mercedes, Texas.

He was married here Oct. 14, 1903, to Bessie Young, who survives him. They observed their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 14.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church at Winterset.

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Bessie White of Winterset, he leaves two sons, Paul J. White of Winterset and W. S. (Jack) White of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. M. L. Percy of Earlham; a sister, Mrs. George M. Post of Denver, Colo; seven grandchildren, John Paul and Sheryll White of Winterset, Judy, Jean Ann and Larry Percy of Earlham, Mrs. Larry Queen of Lampasas, Tex., and Mrs. Larry Kinsey of Houston, Tex.

Funeral services were held Monday from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, with requiem Mass by the pastor, the V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
