Stella M. Jones

EARLHAM-A funeral for Stella M. Jones, 98, of Earlham was held April 30, 1991 at the Bear Creek Friends Church at Earlham. Mrs. Jones died of a heart ailment on April 26 at Earlham Manor Care Center. Burial was in the Bear Creek Cemetery.

The daughter of James M. and Marget Dixon Beals, she was born in Pottawattamie County on Oct. 22, 1892. She taught rural school for two years after graduating from the former Bear Creek High School, and then attended Penn College, graduating in 1917. She taught at Glenwood and then in both the Bear Creek and Earlham High Schools.

She married Elmer S. Jones on March 15, 1921, and they farmed in the Earlham community for many years. A member of the Bear Creek Friends Church, she served for many years as the clerk of ministry and counsel and was also a Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by a step-daughter, Edna Lamb; by four brothers; and by two sisters.

Survivors include three sons, the Rev. Kenneth R. Jones of Tucson, Ariz. and Claire Jones and Howard Jones, both of Earlham; a step son, Wayne Jones of Burt; a brother, Virgil Beals of New Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
