Services were held Mon., Nov. 5 at the United Methodist Church, Earlham, for Edith Rose Hammans, 70. The Rev. Stewart Brooks officiated. Hammans died November 2 of cancer.
The daughter of Alex and Elsie Moffatt, she was born November 4, 1919 near Mt. Ayr. She was a graduate of Mt. Ayr High School and Ottawa University. In 1942 she married Elton Hammans. She was a music teacher for thirty years, retiring in December, 1978. She resided on a farm near Lorimor until 1965 at which time she moved into Earlham. During her lifetime, she was a member of Mt. Ayr Baptist Church, then the United Methodist Church in Lorimor and finally the Earlham United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and W.S.C.S.
She was preceded in death by a son, a granddaughter and a brother.
Survivors include her husband Elton of Earlham; two daughters, Janet Kay Heitshusen of Houston, Tex. And Phyllis Fay Whitehead of New Berlin, Wis.; two sisters, Ruth Angus of Mt. Ayr and Esther Lewis of Sarasota, Fla; three granddaughters and one grandson.
