MRS. RALPH YOUNG Died Wednesday

Mrs. Ralph Young of Macksburg died last Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1970, at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 66 years of age.

Mrs. Young was a life-long resident of the Macksburg community. She was the former Bernice I. Kirkland, daughter of George and Myrtle Edgington Kirkland, and was born in Grand River township Jan. 8, 1904. She was married at Hebron on Feb. 1, 1925, to Ralph Young, who survives her.

She was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist church and the Women's society for Christian Service of that church. She was affiliated with the Women's Relief corps and the Needlecraft club.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Wheeler of Lorimor and Mrs. Myrtle Bailey of Norwalk; two sons, Dale and Phil Young, at home, four brothers, Harlan Kirkland of Creston, Floyd Kirkland of Greeley, Colo., Cleve Kirkland of Lorimor and Ralph Kirkland of Macksburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Young of Indianola and Mrs. Grace Younkin of San Diego, Calif. One daughter, Lois , preceded her in death. She also leaves seven grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Worth Kirkland.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Kinzler. Burial was made in Moon cemetery.

Bernice Young, Macksburg, Dies

LORIMOR –Mrs. Bernice Young, 66, of Macksburg, died at the Madison county Memorial hospital at Winterset Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Macksburg United Methodist church. Burial will be in the Moon cemetery, near Macksburg. Her body is at the Watts-Soll funeral home at Lorimor.

Bernice Kirkland was born in Grand River township, Madison county, Jan. 8, 1904. She was the daughter of George and Myrtle Edgington Kirkland. She grew up in the Macksburg community and attended school there. She was married, Feb. 1, 1925, in Adair county, to Ralph Young.

Mrs. Young lived in the Macksburg community most of her life. She was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist church, the Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Women’s Relief Corps.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Wheeler of Lorimor and Mrs. Myrtle Bailey of Norwalk; two sons, Dale and Phil Young of Macksburg; four brothers, Harlan Kirkland of Creston, Floyd Kirkland of Greeley, Colo., Cleve Kirkland of Lorimor and Ralph Kirkland of Macksburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Young of Indianola and Mrs. Grace Younkin of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Irene, and by her parents.

BERNICE IRENE KIRKLAND YOUNG

Bernice Irene Kirkland Young, oldest child of George and Myrtle Edgington Kirkland was born on January 8, 1904, in Madison County, and departed this life on February 4, 1970, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset after a short illness.

On February 1, 1925, she was married to Ralph Young at Hebron, who survives her. To this union was born five children, Dale and Phil at home, Mrs. Maxine Wheeler of Lorimor, and Mrs. Myrtle Bailey of Norwalk. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Young of Indianola, Mrs. Grace Younkin of San Diego, California, four brothers, Floyd of Greeley, Colorado, Cleve of Lorimor, Ralph of Macksburg and Harlan of Creston. Seven grandchildren, Randy, Keith, Debbie and Troy Wheeler of Lorimor, Kenneth, Richard and Michael Bailey of Norwalk. Also many relatives and friends.

Bernice received her education in Madison County and spent most of her life there. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Macksburg, W.S.C.S., Needlecraft Club, and W.R.C. Her life was devoted to her family and helping others. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Irene, her parents and a brother, Worth.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church on February 7, at 2 P.M. with Rev. Ronald Kinzler officiating. Burial was in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg.

Myrtrilla Baker was the pianist. Dorothy Krabel sand. Casketbearers were: Larry Pettet, John Thompson, Warren Kirkland, George Kirkland, Tom Reynolds and Donald Young.
