A native of Madison County, Chester Arthur Young, died Tuesday, February 3, 1976, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 73 years old.
Chester Young was born June 4, 1902 in Madison County, the son of Hugh Young and Lillie Binns Young. He lived his entire life as a farmer in Madison County with the exception of six years lived near Indianola. He retired in Earlham, Iowa.
The marriage of Chester Young to Dorothy Kirkland took place June 3, 1925. He is survived by his wife and six children, they are: George A. Young of Paonia, Colo.; Darlene Eivins of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Beverly Basham of Bristol, Tenn.; Evelyn Pearson of Knoxville, Iowa, Cleo Welling of Security, Colo.; and Bette Thompson of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Also survivng are eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren and six brothers, Alfred of Earlham, Ralph of Macksburg, Hugh of Creston and Clarence, Earl and Howard of Winterset.
Chester Young was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Eivins.
Funeral services for Chester Young were conducted Thursday, February 5 at 10:30 a.m. from Earlham Methodist Church, the Rev. Don Harbour presiding. Burial was made at the Moon Cemetery.

He lived his entire life as a farmer in Madison County with the exception of 6 years near Indianola, before retiring in Earlham, Iowa.
He was married to Dorothy Kirkland on June 3, 1925. He is survived by his wife and the 6 children of this marriage—
A son, George A. Young of Paonia, Colorado; and daughters—Darlene Eivins of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Beverly Basham of Bristol, Tennessee; Evelyn Pearson of Knoxville, Iowa; Cleo Welling of Security, Colorado; and Bette Thompson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include 6 brothers—Alfred of Earlham, Ralph of Macksburg, Hugh of Creston, and Clarence, Earl and Howard of Winterset, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Eivins.
He was a member of the Earlham Methodist Church.
