Melinda E. Allen

Melinda Elizabeth Allen, the second daughter of Isaac and Mary Allen, was born Jan. 6, 1849 near McFall, Gentry county, Missouri, and passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Sophia Newton, March 5, 1918, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 1 day.

She came to Madison county in 1853, where she grew to young womanhood and her later years were spent in Des Moines until the last year, when she was stricken with paralysis and was brought to the home of her sister, where she was cared for until she peacefully passed away last Tuesday evening.

She united with the Methodist church at the age of 14 of which she was a true and faithful member until death, always willing and helping whose in need.

She leaves to mourn her death four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Sophia Newton and Mrs. Belle Gowins of this city, Mrs. Rinda Kinney of Iowa City, Mrs. Ella Garlinger of Huston, Mo., and Elmer Allen of near Winterset. The relatives have the sympathy of everybody in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the M.E. church, with burial in the Winterset cemetery, Rev. W. J. Stewart conducting the services.
