Obituary

Died-At her home in Walnut township, June 20th, 1888, Millie Baker, aged 18 years and 8 months.

Just blooming into womanhood, with fair prospects for a happy life, death claimed her for its victim. For five months she had been a patient sufferer with that fatal disease, consumption, but no murmur, nor complaint even, escaped her lips. A smile and a cheerful word always greeted her friends when they came to her bedside. Weeks before her death she calmly made all needful preparations. To her pastor she said that she wanted her name placed upon the records of the M. E. church, as it was already written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Quietly at 9 o’clock a. m. she fell sweetly asleep in Jesus. The esteem in which she was held in the community was shown by the large funeral procession that followed her to the grave, and the beautiful wreaths of flowers placed upon her coffin by loving hands. Her funeral sermon was preached in the Peru M. E. church, by Charles Hoover, from 1st Corinthians, xv Ch., 55th verse.

Millie was a good girl, and will be greatly missed by her associates.
